What Chesterfield’s scheme covers

What you get: Discretionary payment to help with housing costs for people in exceptional hardship
Who qualifies: Must receive Housing Benefit or the housing costs element of Universal Credit and be unable to pay rent due to exceptional hardship
How to apply: Apply online via My Chesterfield account or guest form, or by downloadable paper form
You will need: Tenancy agreement, proof of rent arrears/eviction notice, medical evidence, National Insurance number, and 3 months of account statements
Government allocation: £166,995 for 2026-27

Chesterfield Borough Council is one of 8 district councils in Derbyshire. In a two-tier area the county council runs crisis payments and the district runs the housing side of the fund — rent shortfalls, a deposit, rent in advance. Derbyshire County Council was allocated £9,319,870 for 2026-27; Chesterfield Borough Council was allocated £166,995 of its own.
