Newcastle: Household Support Fund & Crisis and Resilience Fund

Newcastle City Council runs its local crisis help as the Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF). It is a grant — not a loan: help with essentials, nothing to repay. This is a summary; Newcastle’s own page (linked below) is the authority and the current position.

What Newcastle’s scheme covers

Covers: Crisis Payments (food, energy, transport — cash first); Housing Payments; resilience services; holiday free school meal vouchers
Status: open — applications from 7 April 2026 (confirmed 10 September 2026)
Funding period: 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2029
What you get: Cash-first payment, usually a cash voucher cashable at the Post Office
Who qualifies: Must be a householder aged 16+, living in the City of Newcastle upon Tyne, unable to afford an essential item/service due to a crisis, with no other way to prevent serious harm to self or family
How often: Up to 3 awards in a 12-month period, starting from the date of the first award
How to apply: Apply online, or by telephone on 0191 278 7878 (ask for Housing Benefit, option 3)
Decision: Decision made as soon as possible (no fixed timeframe stated)
You will need: Email address and/or mobile phone, 2 months' bank statements, and evidence to support the claim
Not covered: Does not cover lost money, general cost-of-living pressure where benefits are all in payment, or benefit sanctions
Government allocation: £5,926,621 for 2026-27

Who qualifies. “you are a householder, you live in the City of Newcastle upon Tyne, you're 16 or over, you don't have enough money for an essential item or service due to a crisis, you have no other way to stop serious harm or risk to you or a family member”
How often. “You can get up to 3 awards in a 12-month period. The 12 months starts from the date you receive your first award”
How to apply. “telephone 0191 2787878 ask for 'Housing Benefit' then select option 3 'Crisis and Housing Payment Fund' Monday to Friday 9:30am till 3:30pm”
Decision. “We'll make a decision as soon as we can”
You will need. “provide 2 months bank statements, evidence to support your claim”
Not covered. “struggling with the cost of living and your benefits are all in payment”
