North Yorkshire Council runs its local crisis help as the Crisis and Resilience Fund. It is a grant — not a loan: help with essentials, nothing to repay. This is a summary; North Yorkshire’s own page (linked below) is the authority and the current position.

What North Yorkshire’s scheme covers

Covers: Housing payments (replacing Discretionary Housing Payments); crisis payments for emergencies via the North Yorkshire Local Assistance Fund; and help with heating oil and fuel costs
Status: Interim support running while the full scheme is designed (confirmed 10 September 2026)
Funding period: Three years from 1 April 2026

Before you apply

Use the right route. Housing payments through the council; crisis payments via the North Yorkshire Local Assistance Fund (NYLAF); heating-oil help via Citizens Advice's Warm and Well service on 01609 767 555 (Mon to Fri, 9am to 4:30pm)

The Household Support Fund, in plain terms

Across England the Household Support Fund has largely been renamed the Crisis and Resilience Fund and now runs to 31 March 2029. It is money central government gives to upper-tier councils to help households with essentials — food, energy, and sometimes white goods. A payment does not affect your benefits. Other help you may qualify for

White-goods grants — a broken fridge, cooker or washing machine.
Budgeting Advance or Budgeting Loan — interest-free from the DWP.
Credit union loans — the cheapest borrowing, capped at 3% a month.
DWP phone numbers — which line to call, and for what.
