Somerset Council runs its local crisis help as the Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF). It is a grant — not a loan: help with essentials, nothing to repay. This is a summary; Somerset’s own page (linked below) is the authority and the current position.

What Somerset’s scheme covers

Covers: Emergency crisis payments for essentials such as food and fuel; short-term help with housing costs; financial-wellbeing support; and stronger community support networks
Status: Rolling out from April 2026 (confirmed 10 September 2026)
Funding period: 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2029; £21.5m total

The Household Support Fund, in plain terms

Across England the Household Support Fund has largely been renamed the Crisis and Resilience Fund and now runs to 31 March 2029. It is money central government gives to upper-tier councils to help households with essentials — food, energy, and sometimes white goods. A payment does not affect your benefits. Other help you may qualify for

White-goods grants — a broken fridge, cooker or washing machine.
Budgeting Advance or Budgeting Loan — interest-free from the DWP.
Credit union loans — the cheapest borrowing, capped at 3% a month.
DWP phone numbers — which line to call, and for what.
