Tamworth Borough Council runs its local crisis help as the Crisis and Resilience Fund. It is a grant — not a loan: help with essentials, nothing to repay. This is a summary; Tamworth’s own page (linked below) is the authority and the current position.

What Tamworth’s scheme covers

Award: Housing Payment cannot be greater than the resident's weekly/monthly rent liability
Who qualifies: Must be entitled to Housing Benefit or provide evidence of entitlement to the Housing Costs element of Universal Credit, and be liable to pay rent needing further help
How often: Payments are short-term only, not long-term, while the claimant improves their circumstances
How to apply: Download and complete an application form, then send it back with supporting documents (e.g. by email to the benefits team)
You will need: Must submit the latest two bank statements with the application, or it cannot proceed, plus benefit claim number, income/expenditure and landlord details
Funding period: Scheme replaces Discretionary Housing Payments from 1 April 2026
Government allocation: £115,958 for 2026-27

Tamworth Borough Council is one of 8 district councils in Staffordshire. In a two-tier area the county council runs crisis payments and the district runs the housing side of the fund — rent shortfalls, a deposit, rent in advance. Staffordshire County Council was allocated £8,915,996 for 2026-27; Tamworth Borough Council was allocated £115,958 of its own. If what you need is help with food or energy rather than rent, start with the Staffordshire scheme.

What Tamworth itself says

Award. “HPs cannot be greater than what you're responsible to pay for your weekly/monthly rent”
