What you get: Can be credited to the resident's rent account, or paid to the resident or the landlord
Who qualifies: Must receive Housing Benefit or Universal Credit that includes a housing element, and be a non-homeowner in financial hardship
How to apply: Apply using the Crisis and Resilience Housing Payment application form (online form 470)
Not covered: Cannot be paid to homeowners or to people not entitled to Housing Benefit or the UC housing element
Funding period: Housing Payments replaced Discretionary Housing Payments from April 2026
Government allocation: £288,688 for 2026-27

Borough of Broxbourne Council is one of 10 district councils in Hertfordshire. In a two-tier area the county council runs crisis payments and the district runs the housing side of the fund — rent shortfalls, a deposit, rent in advance. Hertfordshire County Council was allocated £9,299,527 for 2026-27; Borough of Broxbourne Council was allocated £288,688 of its own. If what you need is help with food or energy rather than rent, start with the Hertfordshire scheme.
