What Salford’s local crisis scheme covers, how to apply, and whether it was open when we checked.

Salford City Council runs its local crisis help as the Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF). It is a grant — not a loan: help with essentials, nothing to repay. This is a summary; Salford’s own page (linked below) is the authority and the current position.

What Salford’s scheme covers

Covers: Essential items (food, fuel, clothing, household goods) and help with housing costs
Status: Active (replaced the Household Support Fund and Discretionary Housing Payments) (confirmed 10 September 2026)
Funding period: 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2029
Who qualifies: Salford resident with a six-month local connection to Salford; no need to be on benefits; must show insufficient income/savings and evidence a financial crisis
Referral needed: No — residents can apply directly
How to apply: Apply online, by phone, or in person at a Gateway
You will need: Bank statements for all accounts held by everyone 18+ in the household, showing four weeks of transactions
Not covered: Does not cover rent/housing costs - apply separately to Crisis and Resilience Fund Housing Payments for that
Government allocation: £6,019,132 for 2026-27
