Cannock Chase District Council is one of 8 district councils in Staffordshire. In a two-tier area the county council runs crisis payments and the district runs the housing side of the fund — rent shortfalls, a deposit, rent in advance. Staffordshire County Council was allocated £8,915,996 for 2026-27; Cannock Chase District Council was allocated £104,641 of its own. If what you need is help with food or energy rather than rent, start with the Staffordshire scheme.

What Cannock Chase itself says

Who qualifies. “You can apply for a Housing Payment if you receive Housing Benefit, the housing costs element of Universal Credit, or Local Council Tax Support, and there is still a shortfall between the help you receive and the amount you must pay”
How often. “Once that budget is used, no further awards can be made until the next financial year”
How to apply. “Please use our online form to request a Housing Payment”
You will need. “We may ask for income, expenditure, and household evidence so we can assess your claim fairly”
Not covered. “We cannot award a discretionary Housing Payment to cover shortfalls caused by ineligible service charges, suspended benefit, sanctions applied by the Department for Work and Pensions, or Housing Benefit being reduced to recover an overpayment”
