Walsall Council runs its local crisis help as the Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF). It is a grant — not a loan: help with essentials, nothing to repay. This is a summary; Walsall’s own page (linked below) is the authority and the current position.

What Walsall’s scheme covers

Covers: Short-term crisis payments for a financial emergency, and housing payments to help with rent; the CRF replaces the Household Support Fund, Discretionary Housing Payments and previous crisis support
Status: Interim scheme open (Local Welfare Provision) until the full CRF is approved (confirmed 10 September 2026)
Funding period: 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2029

Use the right route. Apply online for crisis payments or housing payments; the council is running its Local Welfare Provision on an interim basis until the CRF scheme is formally approved

The Household Support Fund, in plain terms

Across England the Household Support Fund has largely been renamed the Crisis and Resilience Fund and now runs to 31 March 2029. It is money central government gives to upper-tier councils to help households with essentials — food, energy, and sometimes white goods. A payment does not affect your benefits. Other help you may qualify for

White-goods grants — a broken fridge, cooker or washing machine.
Budgeting Advance or Budgeting Loan — interest-free from the DWP.
Credit union loans — the cheapest borrowing, capped at 3% a month.
