Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council runs its local crisis help as the Crisis and Resilience Fund. It is a grant — not a loan: help with essentials, nothing to repay. This is a summary; Tameside’s own page (linked below) is the authority and the current position.

What Tameside’s scheme covers

Covers: Crisis payments for a sudden financial shock, and discretionary housing payments for rent for people on Housing Benefit or Universal Credit
Status: Active and accepting applications (confirmed 10 September 2026)
Funding period: 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2029
What you get: Support for food, toiletries, energy, clothing, and essential furniture/white goods
Who qualifies: Tameside resident (or about to become one), aged 16+, on a low income, facing an immediate crisis and unable to meet essential needs
How often: Cannot apply if you have applied within the last 6 months (exceptions for new/exceptional crises)
Referral needed: No — residents can apply directly
How to apply: Apply online, by phone, email, or in person at Customer Services/libraries
Decision: Usually within 2 working days
You will need: Proof of income, bank statements, and evidence of the crisis event where relevant
Not covered: Does not cover ongoing financial hardship / general budgeting pressures without an immediate crisis trigger
Government allocation: £4,503,547 for 2026-27
