Wakefield Council runs its local crisis help as the Crisis and Resilience Fund. It is a grant — not a loan: help with essentials, nothing to repay. This is a summary; Wakefield’s own page (linked below) is the authority and the current position.

What Wakefield’s scheme covers

Covers: Crisis payments for a sudden financial shock (lost income or an unexpected essential expense); housing payments (replacing Discretionary Housing Payments); and support to build longer-term financial resilience
Status: Open for applications (confirmed 15 September 2026)
Funding period: From 1 April 2026 (replaced the Household Support Fund, which ended on 31 March 2026)
Who qualifies: Must be a Wakefield District resident on a low income
Referral needed: Either — apply yourself, or a support worker can apply for you
How to apply: Apply online via the council's crisis and resilience fund application
Government allocation: £6,310,827 for 2026-27
